GROOVE Podcast 493 – DJ Bone

Ever witnessed DJ Bone DJ in a club environment? The Detroit artist is a force of nature behind the decks, keeping ravers on their toes with fast, abrasive changes of atmosphere and razor sharp fader flicks. His contribution to our podcast series sees him explore a more cohesive, patient style with gentle transitions and tracks that continuously unfold towards a greater good.

What did you have in mind when recording this mix?

I really wanted to make a three deck mix of stripped down and repetitive tracks. So instead of my usual aggressive, chopping style I went for a smooth mix. This mix is more hypnotic and deep in a really good way. I concentrated on having three tracks playing for the majority of the mix, relying heavily on using the EQ’s to make every track fit in perfectly.

Where did you record it and which setup did you use?

I recorded it at my home studio in the Netherlands just outside of Amsterdam. I used three CDJ 3000s—no sync—and a Pioneer V10 mixer.

What’s the most memorable gig you played so far?

I’ve played so many memorable gigs throughout my career but what’s really been special the last six years have been my DJ Bone goes FURTHER events in Amsterdam, especially our Homeless Homies fundraiser.

Can you name a secret weapon that you use frequently?

I have a lot of secret weapons. I’d rather keep them secret tho.

Three recent releases that caught your attention?

Mark Williams – The Future That Created My Past
Gary Beck – Scratch EP
R.M.K. – Modern Fakery EP

What do you have coming up?

I just finished a tour in Asia, now I’m currently touring the US. Then I head back to do some select dates in Europe. I have a couple of new releases coming out on FURTHER in a couple of months as DJ Bone and Doc Ciroc. We have part two of the Subject Detroit remixes coming as well. Of course the usual FURTHER parties will continue in 2026 with a few new one-off events added. Then there’s a very, very special thing that I will announce soon which will be the next phase for me and FURTHER. I can’t speak on it yet. I want to make sure everything goes according to plan.
