Hailing from Munich, Muallem is one of these rare artists that doesn’t need an introduction. He has been shaping the scene for ages as a promoter, club owner, label head, producer, and, last but not least: DJ. For the latest installment of our podcast series, he handed in a set developing, as he puts it, that „hypnotic groove that doesn’t need to shout to move you“, subtle yet mesmerizing, recorded in his living room, BLITZ.
What did you have in mind when recording this mix?
I hadn’t recorded a mix in quite some time, so I wanted this one to really reflect the kind of records I’m currently playing on dance floors. I’ve always been drawn to the kind of subtle yet massive energy that slowly builds from deep within — that hypnotic groove that doesn’t need to shout to move you. I prefer a flow that pulls people in and creates tension over time, with only occasional peaks for emphasis. That’s exactly the kind of vibe I had in mind for this mix.
Where did you record it and which setup did you use?
I recorded the mix at BLITZ, my club in Munich. The booth there is one of my favorite places to play–super comfortable, with excellent monitoring. I kept the setup simple: two Technics MK5 turntables and a Xone 96 mixer. That’s it. I feel really grateful to have the opportunity to record at the club–even without a crowd, the space holds a special energy that you can feel when you’re in the booth.
What’s the most memorable gig you played so far?
It’s usually not my style to single out specific gigs or experiences, but this one stands out: closing Panorama Bar b2b with Seth Troxler–on my birthday. We played for over 14 hours, and the energy was absolutely electric. I’d been at the club since early Sunday morning, with friends from all over coming to celebrate. Playing alongside a close friend like Seth made it feel even more special–there was a real sense of emotional ease.
We wrapped up around 3 PM on Monday with about 150 people still on the floor, who sang Happy Birthday to me at the end of the set. Then someone from the office came down with a birthday present from the team. It was an almost psychedelic experience–spiritual, surreal, and deeply moving. Definitely one for the books.
Can you name a secret weapon that you use frequently?
Alcatraz – Give Me Luv (H-Foundation Remix)
Still unstoppable: Deep, driving, however still finding its peak! It never fails to do the trick.
Three recent releases that caught your attention?
Luss – Natural Nature / Waves (Challenger Deep)
Four Lovers – #03 (Four Lovers)
Melchior Productions Ltd feat. Mischa Blanos – Jupiter Tracks Part 1 (My King Is Light)
All three deliver something personal and fresh while staying rooted in deep grooves.
What do you have coming up?
I’m really looking forward to playing this year’s Unchained Club Festival at BLITZ–it’s always a highlight, and likely the last one at this current location of BLITZ, which makes it even more meaningful. Right after that, I’m making my debut at Good2U Festival, which I’ve heard amazing things about. Everyone I know who’s been speaks highly of the vibe; plus, I love that the team behind it is focused on music and community–not just ticket sales. They really seem to be doing it right.
Additionally, Im planning to release new music on my label Childhood and, hopefully, spend more time in the studio again–I am looking forward to reconnect with that creative space.
